1940 ஆம் ஆண்டு மார்ச் மாதம் 31 ஆம் தேதியன்று திரு ரங்கசாமி ஐயங்கார் மற்றும் கனகாம்பாள் தம்பதியினருக்குப் பிறந்தவரே குருமா  சாந்தம்மா என இன்று போற்றி வணங்கப்படும் அன்றைய செல்வி சௌந்தர்யா ஆவார். சேலத்தில் அவருடைய தாயார் வழி பாட்டனார் சௌந்தரவல்லி என்ற தேவி ஆலயத்தின் நிர்வாகியாக இருந்தவர். அவருடன் அடிக்கடி சௌந்தர்யாவின் தாயார் பல ஆலயங்களுக்கும் செல்வது உண்டு. அப்படி சென்ற பொழுது ஒரு ஆலயத்தில் பிறந்தவரே செல்வி சௌந்தர்யா. திரு ரங்கசாமி ஐயங்கார் சீரடி ஸ்ரீ சாயி பாபாவின் பக்தர். அவருக்கு சாயி பாபா தன்னுடைய ‘குர்மி’ எனப்படும் மேலாடை ஒன்றையும். பாதுகைகளையும் கொடுத்து இருந்தார்.  திரு ரங்கசாமி ஐயங்கார் செல்வம் படைத்தவராக இருந்தாலும் தானம், நன்கொடை என தமக்கு வந்தவற்றைக் மற்றவருக்கு கொடுத்து வந்ததினால் சௌந்தர்யா பிறந்த பொழுது அவருடைய வசதி குறைந்து போனதும் அல்லாமல், ஒரு கட்டத்தில் அவர் தம்முடைய வேலையையும் இழக்க நேரிட்டது. அவருடைய பெற்றோர்கள் வைஷ்ணவத்தில் மிக்க ஈடுபாடு கொண்டவர்களாக இருந்தாலும் செல்வி சௌந்தர்யா சிவனிடம் ஈடுபாடு கொண்டு இருந்தார். அதை அவருடைய தாயார் விரும்பவில்லை.

அவர்கள் வீட்டில் திடீர், திடீர் என நல்ல நறுமணத்துடன் கூடிய வாசைன வருவது உண்டு. அப்படி வரும் நறுமணத்தை சாயிபாபா வந்து சென்றதின் அறிகுறி என்பதாக அவருடைய தந்தை கூறுவது உண்டு.  ஒருமுறை அவளுடைய தந்தை திருவண்ணாமலைக்குச் சென்று ஸ்ரீ ரமண மகரிஷியை சந்தித்த பொழுது அவருடன் சென்றிருந்த செல்வி சௌந்தர்யாவிற்கு, ஸ்ரீ ரமண மகரிஷி சாக்லெட் கொடுத்தாராம். ஸ்ரீ ரமண மகரிஷி அதுவரை தம்மை தரிசிக்க வந்த எந்த ஒருவருக்குமே எதுவும் கொடுக்காததினால் அந்த செயல் ஒரு அதிசயமான நிகழ்ச்சியாகவே கருதப்பட்டது.

செல்வி சௌந்தர்யா பத்து வயதான பொழுது பள்ளியில் சேர்ந்தார். கிருஸ்துவக் பள்ளியில் படித்தாலும் மிகவும் உயர்ந்த கொள்கைகளைக் கடை பிடித்து வந்த செல்வி பள்ளி ஆசிரியர்களிடம் நல்ல பெயர் பெற்று இருந்தார். அவர் படிப்பிலும் கெட்டிக்காரராக இருந்தார். எவருக்கும் தீங்கு வருவதை விரும்பியது இல்லை. யாராவது தவறு செய்து விட்டால் அந்த தவறை தானே செய்ததாக கூறி தன் மீது பழியைப் போட்டுக் கொண்டு அவர்களை காப்பாற்றியவர். அவளுடைய தந்தையிடம் இருந்தே இப்படிப்பட்ட பல நற்குணங்களை செல்வி சௌந்தர்யா கற்றறிந்து அந்தக் கொள்கைகளை தம் வாழ்விலும் கடை பிடித்து வந்தாராம்.

செல்வி சௌந்தர்யாவிற்கு 20 வயதான பொழுது திருமணம் ஆகி விட தமது கணவருடன் பெங்களூரில் இருந்து கிளம்பி டெல்லி சென்று விட்டார். அங்கு சுமார் 35 வருட காலம் தமது திருமண வாழ்வை கழித்தார். அவர் டெல்லிக்குச் சென்ற பொழுது அவருடைய தந்தை தம்மிடம் வைத்துக் கொண்டு இருந்த பாபாவின் நினைவுச் சின்னங்ளை தனது மகளான சௌந்தர்யாவிடம் கொடுத்து அனுப்பினார். ஆனால் சௌந்தர்யா அதை விரும்பவில்லை.  ஸ்ரீ சாயி பாபா மீது நம்பிக்கையே வரவில்லை. உண்மையைக் கூறினால் ஸ்ரீ சாயிபாபா மீது அவருக்கு வெறுப்பே இருந்தது. டெல்லிக்குச் சென்றவர் பாபாவின் மீது இருந்த வெறுப்பினால் ஒரு நாள் தமது தந்தை தம்மிடம் கொடுத்திருந்த பாபாவின் நினைவுச் சின்னங்களை அழிக்க நினைத்த பொழுது அவருடைய கழுத்தை எவரோ இறுக்கப் பிடித்திருந்தது போல உணர்ந்ததினால் அவற்றை அப்படியே போட்டு விட்டு பயந்து ஓடி விட்டாராம்.

அந்த நிகழ்ச்சிக்குப் பிறகு சில காலம் கழிந்தது. திருமதி சௌந்தர்யாவின் குரலும் இனிமையாகவே இருந்தது என்பதினால் தமது வீட்டில் பஜனை செய்வது உண்டு.   1978 ஆம் ஆண்டில் ஒரு நாள் அவருடைய கனவில் ஸ்ரீ சாயிபாபா தோன்றி ‘நீ இன்னமும் என்னை நம்பவில்லை சீரடிக்கு வந்து என்னை தரிசித்து விட்டுப் போ’ என்றார். அவர் அதை அவர் பொருட்படுத்தவில்லை என்றாலும் அந்த கனவு தொடர்ந்து வந்து கொண்டே இருந்தது.  அந்த நிலையில் ஒரு நாள் அவர் தமது வீட்டில் தனியாக அமர்ந்திருந்தபடி சாலையை வேடிக்கைப் பார்த்துக் கொண்டு இருந்தார். அப்போது சாலையின் ஒருபுறத்தில் குரங்கை வைத்துக் கொண்டு ஒருவன் வேடிக்கை காட்டிக் கொண்டு இருந்தான். அதை பார்த்துக் கொண்டு இருந்த அவருடைய வீட்டில் அவர் அழைக்காமலேயே ஒரு வயதானவர் வந்து தனக்கு உணவு ஏதும் தர முடியுமா எனக் கேட்டார். ஆனால் தருவதற்கு வீட்டில் எதுவும் இல்லை என திருமதி சௌந்தர்யா கூற குளிர் சாதனப் பெட்டியில இனிப்பு உணவு உள்ளது, அதை தருவாயா எனக் கேட்க குளிர் சாதனப் பெட்டியில இனிப்பு உணவு உள்ளது அவருக்கு எப்படித் தெரியும் என வியந்தாள்.  அவர் விடவில்லை அதை வாங்கி உண்ட பின் தனது வாயில் தண்ணீர் ஊற்றுமாறு அவளிடம் வேண்டிக் கொள்ள மகுடிக்குக் கட்டுப்பட்ட நாகம் போல அதையும் அவர் செய்தார். தண்ணீரை அருந்தியவர். அவளிடம் ஒரு கவரை தந்து விட்டு வீட்டில் ஜாக்கிரதையாக இருக்குமாறு கூறி விட்டுச் சென்று விட்டார்.

அவர் எங்கு சென்று விட்டார் என்பது அவளுக்குத் தெரியவில்லை. அவர் சென்றதும் பயந்து போனவள் கதவைப் பூட்டிக் கொண்டு பூஜை அறைக்கு சென்று கண்களை மூடிக் கொண்டு அமர்ந்து விட்டாள். வேலைக்காரி வந்து கதவைத் தட்டினாள். குருமா  ஒருவிதமான மயக்கத்தில் இருந்ததினால் கதவை திறக்க முடியவில்லை. வெகு நேரம் ஆகியும் கதவு திறக்கபடாமல் இருந்ததினால் வேலைக்காரி பயந்து போய் மற்றவர் உதவியுடன் அவள் விட்டுக் கதவை திறந்து கொண்டு போய் பார்த்தால் குருமா மயக்கத்தில் இருந்ததைக் கண்டார். அவள் முகத்தில் நீர் தெளித்து அவளை தன்னிலைக்குக் கொண்டு வந்தனர். நடந்த அனைத்தையும் குருமா கூற அவள் கூறியதைக் கேட்டு ஆச்சரியம் அடைந்து அந்த மனிதர் வைத்து விட்டுச் சென்ற கவரைத் தேடி எடுத்தனர். அதில் முன்னூறு ரூபாய் பணம் இருந்தது. அன்று இரவு ஸ்ரீ பாபா மீண்டும் அவள் கனவில் தோன்றி அவளுக்கு சீரடி பயணத்திற்குத் தேவையான பணத்தை தாம் வைத்துள்ளதாகக் கூற அவள் அது குறித்து மற்றவர்களிடம் விவாதித்தப் பின் மனம் மாறி சீரடிக்குப் பயணம் செய்தார். அங்கு காலை ஆரத்திக்குச் சென்றவர் தம் தந்தையின் உருவை ஸ்ரீ பாபாவின் சிலையில் கண்டு பூரித்து போனாள். அது போல ஸ்ரீ பாபாவைப் போலவே தோற்றம் தந்த ஸ்ரீ ஹோமிபாபா என்பவரையும் ஆரத்தி சமயத்தில் சந்திக்க நேரிட்டது. அங்கு இருந்த அவர் அவளை ஒரு பாடலைப் பாடுமாறுக் கூற அவளும் ஒரு பாடலைப் பாடிய பின் அவர் நெஞ்சின் மீதே மயங்கி விழுந்து விட்டார். அப்போது அவருடைய நெஞ்சில் இருந்து ஸ்ரீ சாயிபாபா வெளி வந்ததைப் போல காட்சி வந்தது. அது மட்டும் அல்ல ஸ்ரீ ஹோமி பாபாவின் நெஞ்சில் இருந்து வெளிவந்த ஸ்ரீ சாயி பாபா அவளுக்கு எதோ மந்திர உபதேசம் செய்ததை உணர்ந்தாள். அதன் பின் ஸ்ரீ ஹோமி பாபாவுடன் அந்த அன்னைக்கு நெருங்கிய தொடர்பு ஏற்பட அன்று முதல் குருமா சாந்தாம்மா அவருடைய சிஷ்யையாகவே மாறினார்.

அதன் பின் பல முறை குரு மாவை ஸ்ரீ ஹோமி பாபா சீரடியில் இருந்த தன் ஆசிரமத்திற்கு அழைத்து அவருக்கு சில கட்டளைகளைத் தந்தார். அவரை தரிசனம் செய்து வந்தவர் அவர் கூறியபடி ஒரு சோளத்தை மட்டும் உண்டவாறு ஒரு வருடம் இருக்க வேண்டி இருந்தது. மற்றொரு முறை ஒரு வருடம் மாதுளம்பழ ஜுஸ் மட்டும் அருந்தியும், கங்கை நதிக் கரையில் சென்று மூன்று நாட்கள் கழுத்தளவு கங்கை நதியில் மூழ்கி இருந்தபடித் தவம் செய்தபடியும், ரிஷிகேசத்தில் ஒரு வாரம் காலை ஆறு மணி முதல் மாலை ஆறு மணி முப்பது நிமிடம் வரை கடும் குளிரில் தொடர்ந்து தவம் செய்தவாறும் இருந்தார். இப்படியாக அவர் பல விதமான கடுமையான விரதத்தை அனுசரித்து தபம் இருக்க வேண்டி இருந்தது. மற்றொரு முறை முப்பது நாட்கள் பூமியில் இருந்து பிடுங்கி எடுத்த புல்லைப் பிழிந்து அதில் இருந்து எடுத்த சாறை குடித்தும், 45 நாட்கள் காலையில் கோதுமைப் புல்லில் இருந்து பிழிந்தெடுத்த சாறு, மதியம் மோர், இரவு எலுமிச்சை பழ ஜுஸ் என குறைந்த அளவு உணவையே அருந்திக் கொண்டு கடுமையான தவம் இருந்தார். அவர் கங்கையில் கழுத்தளவு மூழ்கி தவம் இருந்த பொழுது கங்கை நதிக்குள் இருந்து ஒரு வினாயகர் சிலை அவர் மடியில் வந்து விழுந்ததாம்.

இப்படி எல்லாம் கடினமான தபத்தை அனுஷ்டித்தபடி இருந்தவர் தனது தந்தையின் மரணத்திற்குப் பின் எங்கோ சென்று விட்ட தனது தாயாரை தேடி அலைந்து கொண்டு இருந்தாள். 1972 ஆம் ஆண்டு தொலைந்து போன அவருடையத் தாயாரைக் கண்டு பிடித்தார். அவரை தன்னுடன் அழைத்து வந்து தன்னுடன் தங்க வைத்தார். உடல் நலம் இன்றி இருந்த தாயாருக்கு தானே பணி விடை செய்து தன் அன்பைக் காட்டினார். இறுதியில் அவருடைய தாயார் மரணம் அடைந்த பொழுது இறுதிக் கடன்களை செய்ய எந்த உறவினரும் முன்வராத நிலையில் தானே அவருடைய உடலை மயானத்திற்கு எடுத்துச் சென்று உடலை தகனம் செய்து புரட்சி செய்தார்.

அதற்கு இடையே ஸ்ரீ சாயிபாபாவின் அருளினால் அவருக்கு பல அறிய சக்திகள் கிடைத்தன. அப்படி அவர் பெற்றிருந்த சக்தியினால் அவரிடம் வந்த பக்தர்களின் துயரை பல வகைகளிலும் துடைத்தார். பலர் அற்புத அனுபவங்களை அடைந்தனர்.  பக்தர்கள் அவருடைய அருளினால் பல நன்மைகளை அடைந்துள்ளனர். பலருடைய நோய்களும் பிரச்சனைகளும் பனி போல விலகி உள்ளன.  ஒரு முறை உடல் நலம் இன்றி மரணம் அடைந்த தனது பக்தரின் நோயின் கடுமையை தானே தன் உடலில் எடுத்துக் கொண்டு அந்த பக்தரை அமைதியாக மரணம் அடைய வைத்தார். அவரால் நினைத்தபோது தன் உடலில் இருந்த ஆத்மாவுடன் வெளியேறி சுற்றித் திரிய முடிந்தது. மற்றொரு முறை பக்தர் ஒருவரின் புற்று நோயை தாம் எடுத்துக் கொண்டார். இன்னொருவருக்கு தனது கண் ஒளிளைத் தந்து பார்வைப் பெற வைத்தார். இப்படியாக பல அற்புதங்களை செய்து கொண்டு இருந்தவர், 1988 ஆம் ஆண்டு அவருடைய கணவர் அரசு ஊதியத்தில் இருந்து ஓய்வு பெற்றதும் பெங்களுர் நகரின் அருகில் இருந்த ஹோசூர் என்ற இடத்திற்குச் சென்று அங்கு ஸ்ரீ பாபாவின் ஆசிரமம் ஒன்றை அமைத்தார். 1988 ஆம் ஆண்டு அவர் வாங்கி இருந்த நிலத்தில் ஒரு பெரிய பாம்புப் புற்று இருந்தது. ஆகவே பயத்தினால் கட்டிடம் கட்டுவதற்கு தேவையான அந்த நிலத்தை தோண்ட எவரும் முன் வரவில்லை. பாம்பு இறந்துவிட்டால் சர்ப்பதோஷம் ஏற்படும் என்பதினால் யாரும் புற்றை இடிக்க முன் வரவில்லை. ஆகவே குருமா அங்கு சென்று அந்த நிலத்தின் மத்தியில் அமர்ந்து கொண்டு தபம் செய்ய மறு நாள் பாம்புப் புற்றே காணாமல் போய் விட்டது. அவரை அவருடைய பக்தர்கள் குருமா சாந்தாம்மா என அடைமொழியோடு அழைக்காத துவங்கினார்கள்.

குருமா ஹோசூரில் கட்டி உள்ள ஸ்ரீ சாயி தர்ஷன் என்கின்ற கருணை இல்லம் 1996 ஆம் ஆண்டு துவங்கியது. அன்பையே அனைவருக்கும் தரவேண்டும் என்ற ஸ்ரீ சாயி பாபாவின் தத்துவத்தை பரப்பும் விதத்தில் அது அமைக்கப்பட்டு உள்ளது. துயரம் என்பது என்ன என்பதை அனுபவபூர்வமாக உணர்ந்தவர்   குருமா சாந்தம்மா. அதனால்தான் ஏழைகளுக்கும், பெண்களுக்கும், வயதானோர்களுக்கும் ஆதரவு அளிக்க தம்மால் ஆன அனைத்தையும் செய்து வருகின்றார்.

டெல்லியில் இருந்த பொழுது அவர் தன்னிடம் வைத்து இருந்த ஸ்ரீ பாபாவின் சிறிய சிலையை வீட்டில் புதைத்து வைத்து இருந்தார். அங்கிருந்து ஹோசூருக்கு வந்தபோது அந்த ஸ்ரீ சாயி பாபாவின் சிலையை உடைக்காமல் எப்படி எடுத்து வந்து அதை ஸ்ரீ சாயி ஆலயத்தில் வைப்பது என்ற பிரச்சனை வந்த பொழுது, அன்று இரவு அவருடைய வீடு சிறிது குலுங்கியது. சிலையை அடிப்பாகம் தாமாகவே வெளியில் வந்து விட அதை பூமியில் இருந்து எளிதாக எடுக்க முடிந்தது. 1988 ஆம் ஆண்டு பெங்களூரில் அவர் சாயி கிருபா என்ற ஆலயத்தையும், அதைப் போலவே 1999 ஆம் ஆண்டு சென்னையில் சீரடி ஸ்ரீ சாயி பாபாவிற்கு ஒரு ஆலயமும் அமைத்து உள்ளார். 2001 ஆம் ஆண்டு சீரடியில் உள்ளது போன்றே தொடர்ந்து எரிந்து கொண்டிருக்கும் நெருப்பு அறை எனப்படும் துனி துவக்கப்பட்டது. அன்றைய தினம் பௌர்ணமி ஆகும். அப்போது பலரும் அங்கு கூடி இருந்தனர். குரு மாய் சாந்தம்மா அமைதியாக அமர்ந்து கொண்டு இருந்த பொழுது கூடத்தின் ஒரு மூலையில் தாமிரத் தட்டின் மீது வைக்கப்பட்டு இருந்த சில விறகுக் கட்டைகளில் தாமாக தீ மூண்டது. அதுவே ஸ்ரீ சாயிநாதர் தனக்கு தந்த சமிக்கை என்பதை உணர்ந்த குருமா சாந்தாம்மா துனியை அங்கு துவக்கினார். சென்னையில் குரு மாயி சாந்தம்மா கட்டி உள்ள ஆசிரமம் அமைதியானது. இயற்கை அழகு கொண்ட சூழ்நிலையில் அமைக்கப்பட்டு உள்ளது.

Guruma  Santhamma who was Kumari  Soundarya was born to Shri Rangaswami Iyengar and Smt Kanakambal on March 31^st in the year 1940. One of the relatives of her mother was temple administrator in the city of Salem.     Soundarya’s mother used to accompany her whenever she visited temples and in one such visit Soundrarya was born in a temple. Shri Rangaswami Iyengar was god fearing and a devotee of Shirdi Sai Baba and possessed a precious upper garment called Gurmi presented to him by Shri Baba himself. 

Since Shri Rangaswami Iyengar spent too much money on charity, his financial status went down and at one point time lost his job too. Unlike her parents who were emotionally active Vaishnavites,  Soundarya worshipped Lord Shiva which was resented by her family members. Even at odd hours whenever pleasant smell of flower or fragrance filled their home for few minutes and disappeared, her father used to say that Shri Baba had visited them. Once when  Soundarya’s father went to Thiruvannamalai and met Shri Ramana Maharishi, she too accompanied him and Shri Ramana Maharishi gave her a chocolate. It was unusual occasion for a great sage of Shri Ramana Maharishi to offer Chocolate to a child which had never been witnessed by any before.

 Soundarya studied in Convent run by missionaries and fared very well in her studies.  If any of her friends committed mistake, she would own the mistake. She had inculcated such a good habit from her father.

At the age of 20 she got married year old girl, and went to Delhi with her husband. She was in Hosur till then.  She lived with her husband for over 35 years. When she left home, her father gave her some of the precious items of Shirdi Sai Baba which of course was not to her liking.  Once out of frustration when  Soundarya attempted to destroy them, she felt as if someone attempted to strangulate her. She ran away leaving them as it is, out of fear.   

As time moved, certain changes in the lifestyle of  Soundarya was seen. With her melodious voice, she engaged herself by performing Bhajans. In the year 1978 Shirdi Baba appeared in her dream and directed that she should visit Shirdi to have his darshan. Initially though she ignored the dream, it continued to haunt her time and again and once when she was sitting alone at home watching the street, an unknown stranger came to her seeking some food as he was hungry. When she tried to turn him away saying no food was available to give, the stranger asked her to give the some sweet dish kept in the fridge.  She wondered how he knew of it. The stranger ate the food and asked her to pour some water into his mouth which also she did as if she had been mesmerized by him. Before going away, he gave her an envelope and asked her to keep it safe warning some danger was impending for her.   

When she got in to senses and realized that the stranger had gone, fear gripped Soundarya went inside the Pooja hall, closed her eyes and sat there bolting herself inside the room. When the maid came and knocked the door, she could not open the door as she was partially unconscious. Fearing something had   happened, the maid called the neibours and with their help force opened the door only to find that she was deep asleep. They sprinkled water on her face and woke her up when she narrated everything that happened since morning. The socked members opened the seal of the cover to find that it contained Rs 300/-. The same night Shirdi Sai Baba appeared in her dream to inform her that he had kept money in the envelop given to her to meet travel expenses for her visit to Shirdi.  In the morning after consulting her parents, she travelled to Shirdi to meet Shri Shirdi Baba. She was shocked to see Baba appear in the form of her father. Further she also met Shri Homi Baba who resembled to that of Shirdi Baba. He asked her to sing a song after which she fell unconscience on his lap. She could feel as if Shirdi Sai Baba emerged out of his body and chanted mantra incantation in her ear and from then on she became his true disciple.    

Thereafter Shri Homi Baba called her to Shirdi several times and gave her some directives.  As directed by him, she eat no other food except corn for one year, another year passed drinking only promogranide juice, and  in another instance she stood meditating in neck deep Ganges river for three days.  While she meditated immersed in the Ganges water, an idol of Lord Ganesh fell on her lap from inside the river.  As directed by Shri Homi Baba, she meditated in freezing cold weather from morning six till evening six in Rishekesh. Thus she underwent several ordeals during the ritual to reach very high spiritual level. While observing the ritual, in one instance she had to pluck out the grass from the ground and drink its juice for 45 days in the morning, then juice from the grass of wheat, and just few quantity of rice in the noon and finally lemon juice in the night.  

As she continued her arduous thapas in the above manner, she had to search her mother who went missing after the demise of her father. With great difficulty she managed to trace her in the year 1972 and brought her to stay with her. Upon her mother’s death when even when her own relatives refused to help her in any manner for crematory rituals, she carried the dead body to the cemetery and performed the rituals like that of a male member in her family.

In direct communion with Shirdi Sai Baba, she attained she became enlightened soul and wiped out the agony and personal pains of many with her spiritual powers. She cured the incurable diseases of those who reached her and once she absorbed the disease into herself of the one who was in death bed thereby relieving the dying man of his mental and physical agony. In another occasion, she relieved the agony of a cancer patient by taking the disease on to herelf, in another case she restored the vision of one who lost his eye sight.  She was able free her soul from the physical body and roam around to places where her presence was required. By then she was fondly called as Gurumai Shanthamma by her devotees. In the year 1988 after her husband retired, she established an ashram in Hosur in Tamilnadu which was border area between Tamilnadu and Karnataka.  

There was a huge snake pit in the midst of the land which she had acquired. Generally the snake pits are considered to be sacred as snakes live inside and if one killed the snake, they would attain Sarpa dosha. Hence no one would dare to kill or remove the snakes to construct building. Thefore Gurumai Maa went and sat in tapas and next day the snake bit vanished without a trace as if nothing was there. In order to probagate the ideals of Shirdi sai Baba, Guruma Shanthamma established Sai Darshan Karunai Illam (Charity home) in the year 1996. Since Mother Gurumai had personally experienced the pains in life, she has been highly compassionate to those who reach out to her with their very personal problems of many type and the Mother heal their feelings  with her grace and spiritual power to the extent possible to give them solace.

When she was in Delhi, she had plastered the idol of Baba with floor in her home. When she came to Hosur, she was worried how the idol could be taken out without getting it damaged. In the same night, there was a mild earthquake and the house where she resided too shook with the result, the idol of Shri Baba came out without need to break the floor and take it out. The idol showed no damage of any sort.

The Mother established an ashram in Bangalore in the name of Sai Kripa in the year 1988 and established a temple in Chennai for Shri Sai Baba in the year 1999.  She started the duni- ever burning fire pit-similar to the one in Shirdi Baba temple, on the full moon day. When everyone were seated in the room where Duni was installed, Gurumai Shanthamma was immersed in deep thoughts looking at a copper plate filled with wooden pieces for worshiping as a purification. Suddenly a divine flame arose on its own from the wood pieces. Mother understood that to be a divine omen from Shri Sai Baba and immediatley caught hold of the plate and proceeded to the duni site to start the dhuni.
